Kimberling shares that he and Nancy started praying together on their wedding night and have continued the practice about 99% of nights throughout their 53-year marriage. Even when praying through clenched teeth during arguments, the consistency anchored their relationship.
Kimberling notes that couples typically only discuss sex when fighting over frequency rather than communicating constructively. He recommends couples dedicate calm, intentional time to rate their sex life on a 1-to-10 scale and discuss what specific step would move it up one number.
Kimberling recalls his favorite date night took place three years into their marriage when Nancy invited him to the construction site of their first house. She had set up a romantic picnic directly on the concrete slab before any walls were built.
