Sarah J. Maas is publishing two new A Court of Thorns and Roses books in quick succession. As
Business Insider reported↗, the sixth,
A Court of Splintered Harmony, comes out on
October 27, 2026, and the seventh,
A Court of Forgotten Melody, follows on
January 12, 2027.
The two books are parts of a single story. Maas told Alex Cooper on
Call Her Daddy that the sixth ACOTAR story grew too long for one book and was divided into four parts,
according to Business Insider↗.
Part one is
A Court of Splintered Harmony, and parts two and three arrive together in
A Court of Forgotten Melody. Part four will be an eighth book, which Maas has not yet given a date, so
as The Cut explains↗ it is one four-part story in three volumes.
A Court of Thorns and Roses helped turn "romantasy" from a niche label into a mainstream publishing category.
The New York Times reported↗ in March 2026 that Maas had announced the two new books, and she revealed their titles and first descriptions on August 17,
according to Business Insider↗.
The commercial stakes are large. Bloomsbury's sales fell
10% in its 2025–26 financial year because Maas had no new book out,
Business Insider reported↗, citing Publishers Weekly.
Target is treating the release as an event.
Target announced↗ midnight release parties at about 250 stores on the night of October 26, and
Time Out reported↗ that exclusive ACOTAR merchandise went on sale on October 11.
Two licensed games arrived this month as well. Goliath's strategy game
A Court of Thorns and Roses: Fate and Favor launched in October,
The Toy Book reported↗, and Hasbro's
Monopoly: A Court of Thorns and Roses Edition went on sale on October 1,
according to SheKnows↗.
Today↗ and
Variety↗ both covered the title reveals for books six and seven.
AP News↗ has reported on the series' place in the wider romantasy boom.
